6th straight win for indian motorcycle in the American Flat Track series.
Double finals win for Jared Mees and Briar Bauman on FTRs.
Jared Mees took home his eighth American Flat Track title and Indian Motorcycle's sixth consecutive Manufacturers Championship in the discipline.
This long series of sixteen races has yielded him twelve podium results, including three wins. Having dominated the oval tracks for many years and racked up over 60 career wins, Mees is now within reach of the all-time record held by Scottie Parker, who has nine Championship crowns to his name.
While new 2022 rule changes were implemented by the AMA to restrict performance of the Indian FTR750, the Indian Motorcycle team did an impressive job of providing a combative FTR that did not suffer a single mechanical failure in the season. Mees has acknowledged and salutes the tremendous work his team put in throughout the year in their pursuit of performance.
His direct rival, 2020 champion Briar Bauman – also on an FTR – had an outstanding season, achieving ten podiums including three outright wins and a second-place finish. It was during the fourth race at Red Mile that he lost ground to Mees, later catching up by taking the lead over him in all three of the New York, Port Royal and Preoria rounds. Stung to the quick and galvanised by this threat, Mees did not give Bauman a single other opportunity to overtake him for the next five rounds until the final in Volusia.
“This year brought new challenges unlike any other. Our Manufacturer’s Championship and Mees’ title are a testament to the team’s resilience and hard work,” said Gary Gray, Vice President, Racing, Service & Technology for Indian Motorcycle. “And, of course, personal congratulations to Jared on his eighth Championship. When we returned to the sport in 2017 and Jared joined our team, we shared the same goal. So to be sitting here, six years later, having achieved so much together, is truly amazing.”
